Rod Donovan

Rod Donovan is a self taught artist that hails from Chicago, Illinois. His roots in the arts began the moment he was born and he can not remember ever being instructed on how to draw or paint. Instead he considers his artistic talents the greatest gift God ever granted him.

"I never felt like I could pinpoint a specific style that I was going for but instead every piece just feels like a conversation with God that I am trying to translate in physical form. Literally attempting to turn air to gold."

With this being said, the majority of his work is an ode to the unfiltered beauty and power of black people.

 

"I want my paintings to make my people feel GODLY".

With so much of African American history revolving around slavery and the many injustices we face within this country, Rod's art attempts to express our identity without the need of any outside influence or interruption. Every piece attempts to illuminate the God within our people and challenges us to live as if the world is ours.
